Autumn is my favorite season of the year. I love the vibrant and cheer colors. They say that the eyes are the windows to the soul. Sometimes we see with our spiritual eyes…places we long to escape to. I hope with my paintings I can create beautiful windows on your walls of places you would yearn to be. Enjoy!

“For the Scripture saith, ‘Whosoever believeth on Him (the Lord Jesus Christ) shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon Him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” ~ Romans 10:11-13.

“Sailboats in the Sunset II” ~ 12″x24″ A Painting a Day Hudson River School Landscapes Paintings by Connie Tom

By admin | March 17, 2009

Submitted by A Painting for You!

This is the second in a series of paintings entitled the “Sailboats in the Sunset Series”. This work pictures a beautiful sunset that is also reflected in the ocean. There are sailboats along the horizon and breakers are making their way to the shore. Sunsets and sunrises are my favorite time of day to paint because that’s when you can see the most dramatic lighting. Enjoy!

“The Cowboy” ~ 3/6/09 30″x20″ A Painting a Day Luminous Cowboy and Indian Western Landscapes by Connie Tom

I still love westerns on television and in the movies. Even the old ones. Our family watched them ever since we were kids. So the image of a cowboy stirs up the emotions of virtues of a hero of a sort. They were the ones saving the day, righting the wrongs, saving damsels in distress, living hard, but dedicated to their work. This cowboy was probably all cleaned up after a dusty trail ride, just sitting by the fire and relaxing and thinking. What is he thinking about? Maybe the hard days work, his love back home, maybe just about life. You decide…. Enjoy!

“The Pathway of Life” ~ 2/26/09 A Painting a Day Hudson River School Landscapes by Connie Tom

By admin | February 26, 2009

Submitted by A Painting for You!

This scene reminded me somewhat of our journey through this life. You can’t see around the next bend. There are fences up sometimes. We’re enclosed by circumstances bigger than ourselves. There are bumps, rocks, and sometimes the way seems tilted. This reminds me that God is ultimately in control and we are to so totally trust Him. Our part is to keep walking on, keep following the path, and to enjoy the journey. I hope you enjoy this as much as I enjoyed painting it! ~ Connie

“The Pounding Surf Against the Rocky Coast” ~ 2/16/09 A Painting A Day Hudson River School Landscapes by Connie Tom

By admin | February 16, 2009

Submitted by A Painting for You!

“The Pounding Surf Against the Rocky Coast” is another intense study I have done of the revered Hudson River School master Frederic Edwin Church. There is something so fascinating to me about the ocean…. it’s massiveness, I guess. Completely out of man’s control. Always moving with a thousand little glints of reflected light. Intriguing to me just to sit and watch what it’s going to do next with the changing of the tides, the lights, the weather, the time of day. Enjoy!

“Praise ye the LORD. Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD, that delighteth greatly in his commandments. His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed. Wealth and riches shall be in his house: and his righteousness endureth for ever. Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness: he is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous.” ~ Psalms 112:1-4

In painting this work, I was reminded the greatness of God…He is Omnipresent…present everywhere, Omniscient…all knowing, and Omnipotent…all powerful! He is above all… and over all in all these things… or He wouldn’t be God. I was reminded also of His wonderful thoughts and of his infinite goodness and mercies toward us, and how He gives us all good things to enjoy, if we will just “put our faith and trust in Him and walk in His ways”. His love is perfect toward us! ~ Enjoy!

This was another intense study that I did of one of my favorites of the Hudson River School masters, Albert Bierstadt that painted back in the 1800’s. He and Frederick E. Church had the most dramatic lighting, mood and atmosphere. I am very thankful for what I have learned from having done many of these studies. “Sunset Over Jackson Lake and the Grand Tetons” ~ 24″x36″ A Painting a Day Hudson River School Landscapes by Connie Tom

This work pictures a beautiful sunset over Jackson Lake and the Grand Tetons located in Wyoming. As I have confessed before, an artist I am… a photographer I’m not. The easel light over the painting during the photographing has washed out the colors in the sky area and the photos just do not render justice to the actual painting. But I hope you enjoy anyway! ~ Connie
